Re-enrolment Advice for 2008 Elective Courses In Session 2, 2008, we will be offering PHYS3510 Advanced Mechanics, Fields and Chaos, PHYS3160 Astrophysics and PHYS3410 Biophysics 2. These will not be offered in 2009, so if you want to take any of these electives (even if you are currently in second year), 2008 is the year to do so! The prerequisite for PHYS3510 is PHYS2010 Mechanics, which is offered in Session 1. Advanced Science Students As you should be aware, new and revised plans for the Advanced Science degrees are being introduced in 2008. See the Science Student Office or the UNSW Handbook for details. If you have not done any Table X courses (PHYS1000/MATH1000 etc) you should enrol into SCIF1021 in Session 1, 2008. If you have done one Table X course, then you should enrol into LIFE2001 in Session 2, 2008. Combined degree students check the Handbook! Completing a physics major is usually not sufficient to complete the science component of your program. Make sure you have completed enough units of credit of science courses. Engineering/Science students There are specific second year maths courses for engineering students. However, if you are doing a physics major it is highly recommended that you do the ordinary maths courses instead. So, for example, a Mechanical Engineering/Physics student would need to take MATH2011, MATH2120, MATH2089 and an Electrical Engineering/Physics student MATH2011, MATH2120, MATH2520, MATH2099. See the School of Mathematics, the School of Physics or your Engineering School for advice regarding which Maths courses you should study. Honours Students can’t enrol themselves using MyUNSW. You will need to contact the Science Student Office for an enrolment form. We will be sending letters of invitation to new honours students before Christmas. Need help? If you are having trouble enrolling, need permission for a clash, the computer thinks you haven’t completed prerequisites, or you just want to check that you’re doing the right courses for a physics major, contact Sue Hagon (s.hagon@unsw.edu.au)
